Imagine my surprise when I went to help Bug put her pjs on and discovered nothing underneath her pants! She goes to the bathroom by herself about 50% of the time but evidently the last time she did she decided not to put her pull-up back on. Her first excuse was that she "didn't make it in time" and that she had soiled it. Disappointed because it had been her first accident free day since she first decided to start going on the potty, I reminded her (in an admittedly lecturing tone) about listening to her body, going to the closest bathroom right away, etc. However, when I found her pull-up it was dry. When asked again her second excuse was that she knew it was almost time for pajamas. Personally I think she just felt like going commando. So...I had yet another conversation I never imagined I'd have to have, this time about the importance of wearing underwear. The great triumph, of course, is that this actually was her first full day with no accidents.
J is now a rolling machine. Every single time his back hits the floor he rolls over onto his tummy. He hasn't figured out rolling over again or back to his original position (perhaps because we pity and rescue him), but it won't be long and he'll be rolling to get places.
My favorite things about today:
1) Seeing and visiting with my brother. I miss seeing him as often as I did before either of us had families of our own, but there are people who have lost siblings so I am blessed to have the opportunity to see him.
2) Seeing the earliest signs of a friendship developing between Bug and my brother's older son (who is almost 2). They have begun keeping tabs on each other, interacting as they sit next to each other at the dinner table, and they played together off and on throughout the day. They have had a couple of reasonably long (for 2 and 3) sessions playing kitchen, they played in the backyard, and D giggled as he held one end of a jump rope while Bug twirled the other end. Is there anything better in the world than the laughter of children who are genuinely having a wonderful time together unscripted and without any sort of adult influence?
3) Going for a run/walk for the third day in a row with my very fun sister-in-law. If not for her I would have talked myself out of it. I was tired and sore. But as miserable as the running portions were, I enjoyed the time with her and the satisfaction of subjecting the will of my flesh to the will of my spirit.
