Starting a blog is a bit daunting, but as I plan this to be a private chronicle of our family (hopefully easier than writing things out in the high tech spiral notebook I've been using) I'm not going to worry too much about it.
Presently we have a three-year-old daughter, Bug to me and Beautiful to Daddy. A fiery redhead she has a strong will and a mind of her own. She appears to have eluded the indecisiveness, people-pleasing, and insecurity I have battled throughout my life and continue to battle. For that I thank and praise the Lord. She loves to help and learn new things and she has the most beautiful smile in the world. More about her in subsequent posts...
We also have an almost 8-week-old son. He hasn't been around long enough to have many nicknames, so we'll go with J for now. He is responsible for my sleep deprivation and his occasional but painfully shrill cries fray my nerves, but he is inexpressibly precious to me. Because I came into this relationship with some motherhood experience under my belt and a desire and plan for a schedule for him I have been able to enjoy him more than I did Bug at this age. So far he seems to be pretty laid back. This past week he began going down for the night between 10:30 and 11, waking up around 3:30, and then again around 6:30. While not ideal it is more manageable than waking up 2-3 times per night. He has also been giving me the sweetest smiles for about 3 weeks. He cries when he is hungry or hurting from bubbles or gas, but other than that he is bright-eyed, observant, and easy-going.
I am a full-time mom. I reject the label of stay-at-home mom, as if all mothers do an equal job, the industrious ones from work and the underachievers from home. My children are a trust from God and abdicating my responsibility to raise them in the interest of more money or personal fulfillment etc. is simply not an option. Having always envisioned myself as a career woman, living out this calling is not always easy but I know the Lord will use my sacrifice for His glory. And besides I am finding unexpected joy in motherhood daily, well let's be honest, almost daily. Who knew?
