Today was a good day. I'm trying to be more prayerful and positive. The Lord reminded me yesterday (via a radio program) that my example will have a much greater influence over who my children grow to be than my words could dream of having. Sigh. He still has much work to do in me. I guess they can learn a lot from how I handle failure too.
So anyway I was very focused today on being a better, more proactive, thoughtful mom. More and better consistency. My tone of voice rarely deviated from the kind spectrum. I insisted on "yes Mommy" with first time obedience and patiently provided explanations afterward.
We got in a long walk and God blessed us with an up-close opportunity to observe a cement truck providing cement for a neighbor's backyard project.
I taught Bug how to play Uno. She took great delight in making me draw cards (yet another way in which she is her father's daughter). :) When she made it down to one card she yelled "uno" in such a rapturous, infectious way that I couldn't help echoing her. J got a big kick out of that so there were many unwarranted exclamations just to elicit his smiles.
We read books. We talked.
Having been given a homemade invitation by two neighborhood girls, Hubby took Bug to their elementary school play. She was all dolled up for the occasion and it's times like that when I catch my breath, seeing her for the young lady she is growing into. Gone is my baby, my toddler.
J is testing his wings--toddling short distances between sturdy objects (or people). I am starting to introduce him to the concept of quiet, individual play time in the pack-and-play. My goal today was 10 minutes and he did well for 12. I'm going to work up to 30. It will be good for him and for me. He can now insert roll-around balls into the holes in his dinosaur toy, thus causing lights to flash and music to play. He lights up as well and his pride in that accomplishment is quite cute.
Thank you God for my children and my wonderful husband! I am truly blessed beyond measure!
