Two steps forward, three steps back
Thursday Bug announced that she is no longer going to go on the potty. I reminded her that she had decided she wasn't going to wear diapers anymore and I got her to agree that she would wear a pull-up. An hour later she went #2 in it. Within 30 minutes she had gone again in a second pull-up. Sooo, I explained that pull-ups cost a lot of money and that she won't be able to wear them or panties (I can't BELIEVE dangling the princess panty carrot didn't work!) until she decides to go on the potty once and for all. It is frustrating beyond words to have her go back after she was almost there. I am so conflicted about how to handle this. It didn't seem right to ignore her intentional accidents (talk about an oxymoron) and allow her to use pull-ups like diapers whenever she doesn't feel like using the potty. (BTW, I just had to go pop J's binkie back in to get him to go back to sleep instead of waking Bug and Daddy from their naps--another illustration of this post's title---sigh.) I also don't want to discipline for accidents, even knowing they are intentional. I want going to the potty to be a positive thing for her. However, even our nightly celebrations (or lack thereof on the days she has backslidden) hasn't proven to be enough of an incentive. Perhaps the Lord is trying to teach me that my children have a free will that they will exercise despite my best efforts as a parent and at the end of the day I have to hang my hat on the fact that I am prayerfully acting in what I believe is their best interest.
