I mostly live in the moment so it seems inconceivable that there will be a time I will forget all the little things about the kids as they are right now, but given how fuzzy some of my memories (okay, a good number of my memories) of Bug at J's age have become I know I've got to write as much as I can down. I am also suffering from MMS (Mommy Memory Syndrome) which is characterized by one's children appropriating memory cells in-utero, leaving one with an increasingly compromised memory after each subsequent pregnancy, so if there is repetition from previous posts please forgive me.
J seemed to plateau in his development for a bit but has taken off again. He can stand up without pulling up on something, from a standing position he can crouch down to pick something up and stand back up, and just this week he began signing "more." Unfortunately he signs it just for the fun of it and often in his high chair when he doesn't actually want more. He associates it with the word and I believe he understands the meaning--he just seems to enjoy making that sign. Hopefully please, thank you, and all done will soon follow.
He is easy-going most of the time but has a temper that flares occasionally, usually manifested by a scream with simultaneous hitting. As a result, he has become well acquainted with time out in his playpen. He is climbing on everything he can. He reaches up to grab the top of open drawers and lifts his feet to hang there.
He is enamored with both dogs, but especially Zoey. At least once a day he gets one of her toys and tries to get her to play with him. He is also doing better about being gentle with them, but we are still working on not touching them on the head.
J love, love, LOVES his binkie. We will probably have a tough time breaking him of that habit, but for now I love it almost as much as he does. I'm trying to get him attached to a snuggle toy to go to sleep, but that remains optional while his binkie is not.
Another defining characteristic at this point is a distinctive sound he makes. It sounds a bit liggle-liggle-liggle-liggle. I often say tickle-tickle-tickle in the same tone and rhythm so I suspect he is mimicking that, but his is much cuter. :) Hubby says he fears that sound because he knows J is stalking him. It's true. If he sees someone with food he makes a beeline for them and begs shamelessly.
J was still nursing 4 times a day until 3 weeks ago. I started dropping one feeding at a time, the final one this week. He was already doing well with a sippy cup and whole milk so it didn't phase him, but I have to admit it is bittersweet for me. Sigh. How did my baby get so big so fast??
The main driver of the timing was that he and Bug left after lunch today to spend a few days with Grandpa and Grandma. What an indescribable blessing to have people (Hubby included) who are willing to sacrifice in order to bless me! All 3 are making it possible for me to have a few days of totally discretionary time and encouraging me to use to it rest, play, etc. Naturally I'm knocking long-standing items off my to-do list as well, but it's nice to know that this gift of free time has no strings attached.
More later...I'm off for my first night of guaranteed uninterrupted sleep!
